Interpretation
Interpretation refers to rendering a message from one language to another in spoken form.
It is commonly used for:
- Interpetation in courts for foreign nationals
- Interpretation in business meetings between parties that speak different languages
- Interpretation in conferences for large audiences, etc...
There are different levels of interpretation:
- Consecutive Interpretation: This kind of interpretation is mainly used for one on one meetings, where one party speaks, his message gets translated and waits for the translated response of the opposite party. There usually is no need for special interpretation equipment for consecutive interpretations and usually one interpreter can handle these kinds of assignments provided that he/she is allowed to rest for awhile during the meeting.
- Simultaneous Interpretation: This kind of interpretation is used for meetings of large audiences and provides a means for the message to be conveyed simultaneously to the opposite party. As this kind of interpretation is very demanding, a single interpreter can usually handle simultaneous interpretation duties for up to 20 minutes. Any assignment exceeding this time limit would require two interpreters so that they can alternate and alleviate the work load. Simultaneous interpretation requires the use of special equipment such as sound proof booths and interpreter consoles along with wireless headphones and microphones. The Turkish Link project managers can help secure the linguists and the necessary equipment for simultaneous interpretations.
